Extreme South Enduro Raid – 8 Days in Southern Morocco
Marrakech, Morocco
Overview
The Extreme South is the trip Atlas Enduro points riders towards when the four-day circuits are not enough. Eight days, seven nights, six of them riding, departing from the company's southern base and heading into the emptiest terrain in the country. The operator's phrasing is worth quoting because it sets expectations precisely: a real introduction to motorbike raids, without the stress of time trials, at an affordable price. That is the raid experience with the competitive element removed, which for most riders is the version they actually want. Six consecutive days on the bike in remote desert is a different undertaking from three or four. Fatigue accumulates, the gaps between fuel and services get longer, and the assistance vehicle stops being a convenience and becomes the reason the itinerary is possible at all. Atlas Enduro includes that vehicle, with luggage and repairs handled, and a guide who works in French and English. Accommodation is seven nights in hotels or traditional inns, double rooms, half-board, with lunch taken on the road each day. Because the route runs from a southern base rather than out of Marrakech, the transfers matter: the company covers return transfers from Marrakech airport as part of the package, which removes the awkward logistics of getting yourself to a start point several hundred kilometres from where you land. Excluded are flights, all drinks, extras, rider protective equipment and compulsory repatriation insurance. Riders bring their own helmet, gloves, boots and off-road clothing, and the operator can provide some items on request if arranged in advance. Minimum group size is four riders. Atlas Enduro also builds custom raids for groups who want a specific mix of terrain, and the reviews on its own site mention parties asking for a very sandy route and getting exactly that, which is a useful indication of how flexible the programme is once a group of four is assembled and clear about what it wants.
Atlas Enduro's longest published circuit: eight days, seven nights and six of them on the bike, running from the company's southern base into what it describes as the most deserted parts of southern Morocco. The operator frames it as a real introduction to motorbike raids without the stress of a time trial, which is a fair description of the difference between this and a competitive rally. Six consecutive riding days in empty country is a serious week, and the assistance vehicle carrying luggage and tools is what makes it workable. Departures need at least four riders. Return transfers from Marrakech airport, seven nights half-board in hotels or traditional inns, motorbike hire with insurance and a bilingual guide are all included from 2,400 euro.
