Thirteen days on a Royal Enfield through the Sri Lanka most riders never see, starting and finishing in the Dutch fort at Galle. The route runs inland to Udawalawe and its elephants, climbs to 1,500m through tea country to Horton Plains and the colonial hill station of Nuwara Eliya, then on to Kandy for a rest day at the Temple of the Tooth. From there it turns adventurous: the Knuckles mountain range, the 2,000 year old cultural triangle at Dambulla with the Sigiriya rock fortress, elephant country on the way to the wild east coast, surf and bars at Arugam Bay, then west through the national parks to the holy town of Kataragama and a final blast back to Galle. Roughly four to six hours riding a day on roads that were, as the operator puts it, built for motorbikes.
