RIDE OF A LIFETIME - Thailand motorcycle tourAdventure

Ride of a Lifetime

Multiple Countries, Thailand

90 days

Despite sitting in the Thailand listings, this Bike Tour Asia expedition is not a Southeast Asian loop. It starts at Chiang Mai and finishes ninety riding days and roughly 20,000 kilometres later at Piran on the Slovenian coast. The published country sequence runs Thailand, Laos, China and Tibet, then Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, including a ferry across the Caspian Sea, then Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey before Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Croatia and Slovenia, with Italy, Austria and Germany also named. Landmarks along the way include Dali and Lijiang in Yunnan, Lhasa and Everest Base Camp, Issyk-Kul in Kyrgyzstan, the Pamir Highway, Samarkand and Bukhara, the ruins of Merv, Baku, the Caucasus, Cappadocia and Istanbul. The operator does not publish a day by day schedule for the route.

5 Day Spirit of the North Motorcycle Tour - motorcycle tour in ThailandScenic

5 Day Spirit of the North Motorcycle Tour

Chiang Mai, Thailand

5 days

Five riding days and roughly 1,040 kilometres in a loop that takes the western Mae Hong Son roads and then swings east to Chiang Rai instead of turning for home. The first three days follow the shorter Mae Hong Son itinerary through Doi Inthanon, Mae Sariang, Mae Hong Son and Pai, but finish in Chiang Dao rather than Chiang Mai. Day four crosses to Chiang Rai for the White Temple, the Blue Temple and the Big Buddha complex at Wat Huay Pla Kang, and the final leg returns via Phayao and its lakeside town. Let's Ride bills it as a tour for riders of all levels who want long scenic days and the region's best-known cultural landmarks. The published price is 42,000 baht per rider and covers bike, accommodation, breakfast and Thai lunch, fuel, entrance fees, gear and an English-speaking guide.

3 Day Enduro Tour: Chiang Dao and Pai - motorcycle tour in ThailandOff-Road

3 Day Enduro Tour: Chiang Dao and Pai

Chiang Mai, Thailand

3 days

Three days and about 395 kilometres of mostly dirt, running Chiang Mai to Chiang Dao to Pai and back with the off-road content rising from around 70 per cent on day one to 85 per cent on day two. The trails are a mix of jungle single track, gravel climbs, ridgelines and farmland tracks past hill tribe villages, and the guides split the group where skill levels diverge so faster riders and cautious ones both get a day they enjoy. Bikes are professionally modified Honda CRF300Ls with reworked airflow and exhaust, unrestricted ECUs, revised gearing and suspension and enduro tyres. Let's Ride pitches the tour at novice to advanced riders and charges 24,000 baht per rider, which covers the bike, full armour, accommodation, breakfast and lunch and the guiding. An optional damage waiver runs at 600 baht a day.

Ho Chi Minh Trail Motorcycle Tour – 12 Days - motorcycle tour in VietnamAdventure

Ho Chi Minh Trail Motorcycle Tour – 12 Days

Ho Chi Minh Trail, Vietnam

12 days

Twelve days and roughly 1,965 kilometres from Hanoi down to the beach at Nha Trang, following the parts of the Ho Chi Minh Trail that are worth riding rather than the whole length of it. Vietnam Motorbike Tour Expert starts in the Mai Chau valley, picks up the trail proper at Tan Ky, where the supply route to the south began, and then takes the western branch through Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, a two-hundred-kilometre stretch the operator describes as almost empty of traffic. History is not incidental here: the route passes the Khe Sanh marine base and museum, the Vinh Moc tunnels and the Hien Luong bridge that once marked the border between north and south. Two full days off the long stages, in Hue and Hoi An, break the tour in half, and the last three days drop through the Central Highlands to Lak Lake and out to the coast.

Essence of Southern Spain Andalusia Motorcycle Tour - motorcycle tour in SpainAdventure

Essence of Southern Spain – Andalusia Motorcycle Tour

Andalusia, Spain

9 days

Nine days out of Málaga, seven of them riding, covering 1,546 kilometres of Andalusia at a daily average of 250 to 350. IMTBIKE built this one for riders who cannot spare a fortnight: the route still reaches Granada and the Alhambra, Córdoba and its Mezquita, Seville, the white towns of the Sierra de Cádiz and Ronda on its gorge, but does it in a week of riding rather than two. The roads are the point. Day two runs the Costa del Sol before turning inland onto the highest paved highway in Spain through the Sierra Nevada; day four crosses the Sierra Morena, which the company calls the region's best kept motorcycling secret; days six and seven work through the Grazalema passes. Bikes are BMWs from the G310R up to the K1600GT, and nights are spent in state-run Paradors and a few boutique hotels.

Sahara Experience in Morocco - motorcycle tour in MoroccoAdventure

Sahara Experience in Morocco

Sahara Desert, Morocco

6 days

Six riding days across the Moroccan Sahara, run as an eight-day package from Marrakech and open to enduro bikes, Can-Am buggies or a Land Cruiser. From there the route works through the Jbel Saghro mountains and the Rheris river to Merzouga, about 270 km, then roughly 280 km of desert tracks to M'Hamid. The middle of the week is the remote part: about 176 km through Erg Chegaga and the dry lake of Lac Iriki to Foum Zguid, a shorter 132 km day among oases and valleys to Agdz, and about 210 km back over the Jbel Saghro into the Dades valley. Vehicle hire, luxury desert hotels, all meals, GPS and a support vehicle with mechanic are covered.

The Mae Hong Son Loop - motorcycle tour in ThailandMountain

The Mae Hong Son Loop

Chiang Mai, Thailand

8 days

The operator's Tour A, an eight-day week built around the Mae Hong Son loop with a Saturday arrival at each end. Riders land, collect their bikes and eat together on day one, run a safety induction and a group-chosen day ride on the Sunday, then spend Monday to Friday on the loop itself through Pai, Mae Hong Son, Mae Sariang and Doi Inthanon. Riding days are moderate at 155 to 233 kilometres, which leaves room for waterfalls, hot springs, a geyser, cave rafting, Karen long neck villages, temple gardens and a boathouse lunch on the lake. The company quotes 1,984 bends on the way out and 2,070 on the return, courtesy of the Thai Highways Agency. The published price is 64,189 baht per person all-inclusive, with discounts of up to 25 per cent for groups above five riders.

Sea and Sun Motorcycle Weekend in MoroccoCoastal

Sea and Sun Motorcycle Weekend in Morocco

Morocco, Morocco

5 days

A five-day, three-ride escape from Marrakesh to the Atlantic and back, built for people who can only get away for a long weekend. Day one is arrival and briefing; the riding starts with the run south-west over the Atlas foothills to Agadir, continues north up the coast to Essaouira through dunes and argan country, and finishes with a return leg across rocky farmland to Marrakesh. Wheels of Morocco rate the route as 100 per cent good tarmac, but the roads are narrow and twisty enough that they ask for experienced riders. Stops along the way include Sidi Kaouki, an argan oil cooperative and the UNESCO-listed medina at Essaouira, with an optional hike into Paradise Valley for anyone with energy left. Bikes run from the KTM 390 up to the BMW R 1250 GS, with hotels, dinners and airport transfers handled.

Golden Triangle Loop - motorcycle tour in ThailandScenic

Golden Triangle Loop

Chiang Mai, Thailand

8 days

The operator's easier week, described on its own site as Scenic Riding Heaven and built for riders who want less arduous mid-week days than the Mae Hong Son loop demands. The route runs Chiang Mai, Tha Ton, Mae Sai, the Golden Triangle and Chiang Rai, following the Myanmar border through lakes and mountain roads, with short crossings into Myanmar and Laos and a longtail speedboat on the Mekong. Attractions listed along the way include the largest cave system in Thailand, an elephant camp, a hillside of seven temples, the Three Tribes Village, the opium museum, temple ruins and tulip fields when they are in season. The week follows the standard shape: Saturday arrival, Sunday induction and group ride, Monday to Friday on the loop, Saturday departure. Published price is 64,189 baht per person all-inclusive.

Desert and Atlas Motorcycle TourDesert

Desert and Atlas Motorcycle Tour

Morocco, Morocco

9 days

Nine days based out of Marrakesh, seven of them in the saddle, on a loop that trades the High Atlas for the Middle Atlas cedar belt before dropping to the edge of the Sahara. Riding days run roughly 125 to 280 km and are almost entirely sealed, with only a token stretch of optional gravel. The route takes in the lake at Bin El Ouidane and the Ouzoud falls, the forests around Azrou and their Barbary apes, the old Foreign Legion tunnel on the run down to Errachidia, and the dunes at Merzouga, where the night is spent in a desert camp. Homeward legs link the Todra and Dades valleys, the kasbah at Ait Benhaddou and the 2,260 m Tichka pass. Wheels of Morocco run it with a guide on a bike, hotel accommodation, a luggage vehicle once five riders sign on, and a fleet spanning KTM 390 to BMW GS.

Andalusia - Motorcycle Touring at its best - motorcycle tour in SpainAdventure

Andalusia – Motorcycle Touring at Its Best

Andalusia, Spain

10 days

Edelweiss runs this Andalusian tour as a ten-day round trip from Málaga with eight riding days, and it is deliberately short on distance: 1,235 to 1,761 kilometres in total, with daily stages between 135 and 304. The trade is time. Two rest days, in Seville and Ronda, sit inside the itinerary rather than at the end. The route climbs from the coast to Granada with the Alhambra below the snowline of the Sierra Nevada, crosses the olive country around Jaén, works west through Antequera and El Torcal to Seville, and finishes through the Sierra del Chaparral and the Montes de Málaga back to the sea. Hotels are comfortable middle-class places with local character, luggage travels in a van, and the bike list runs from a Honda NC750X to a BMW R1300GS Adventure.

Cambodia brings Stung Treng on the Mekong and two nights at Siem Reap for Angkor, before the final crossing back into Thailand.
