Overview
Seven riding stages through the volcanic country of the Rift, alternating small camps with bivouacs in places with no one else around. Wildlife is daily rather than occasional: giraffe, wildebeest, zebra and ostrich on the tracks themselves, plus a 4x4 tour of the Mara. Nights include a Masai village at Mosiro and a wild camp in primary forest in the Loita hills. Rated medium to technical. Price falls with group size: from USD 4,215 each for four riders to USD 3,170 each for eight. Seasons are September to October and December to March.
Eight days and 1,100 km across south-west Kenya on Honda XR dirt bikes, from the Ngong hills down into the Great Rift Valley, over the Mau escarpment to the Masai Mara and through the Loita hills. Eighty-five per cent tracks.

Nairobi: arrival, briefing, Osoita Lodge on the edge of Nairobi National Park
Lake Elementaita, 200 km, through the Ngong hills and Masai Kedong country, 8 hours
Mau escarpment to Ilariak Camp, 180 km, climbing to 3,000 m above the Rift
Masai Mara north, 120 km, Salt Springs camp above the Mara river, 4x4 park drive
Loita hills, 170 km, along the Tanzanian border, wild camp in primary forest
Mosiro, 195 km, Masai village and bush school, barbecue with Masai warriors
Ewaso Nyiro river, 100 km, on a track opened by the operator through forgotten villages
Lake Magadi and back to Nairobi, 205 km, flamingos on the alkaline shore
