Negombo, Sri Lanka
Ride On Sri Lanka's 12-day loop spends its first half in the Cultural Triangle and on the north-east coast. From Negombo it rides to Dambulla, visits Anuradhapura with a local guide, climbs Sigiriya Rock Fortress at dawn and continues to Polonnaruwa, then takes about 20 km of unpaved forest road through the Somawathiya area to Nilaveli Beach near Trincomalee for a free day. The second half has longer days in the saddle: 260 km to Wasgamuwa, a jeep safari in Wasgamuwa National Park, the northern Knuckles via Riverston to Kandy, a city day in Kandy, then the 18 Bends and the tea country to Nuwara Eliya, and a final ride with a tea factory visit to the Galle Face Hotel in Colombo. The operator rates it at intermediate level, with about 80% paved and 20% bumpy roads and around four to six hours of riding on most days. Accommodation is in 3 and 4 star hotels and resorts on a twin-sharing basis, with a US$460 single supplement, and the guide speaks English and Italian. A road captain, a mechanic and a support vehicle travel with the group. Entrance fees, the Wasgamuwa jeep safari and optional activities on the free day are extra; the page gives approximate costs, for example about US$35 for Sigiriya and US$50 to 60 for the safari. Three departures run in August and September 2027 for a maximum of 10 riders, and the tour can also be arranged on request for groups of four or more. Riders need a home motorcycle licence and/or an International Driving Permit, and bring their own helmet and riding gear.
Twelve days and about 1,498 km on a Royal Enfield Classic 350, from Negombo through Anuradhapura, Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa to Nilaveli Beach, then via Wasgamuwa, the Knuckles range, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya to Colombo. Riding is roughly 80% paved and 20% bumpy, at intermediate level, with fuel, all meals and a support vehicle included.
