A 12-day fully supported off-road motorcycle tour designed for confident and experienced riders. The route combines technical mountain tracks, rocky passes, deep sand, dry riverbeds and remote wilderness riding, supported throughout by an experienced local team, 4x4 backup, luggage transport and mechanical support. Accommodation combines expedition-style camping with selected lodge and guesthouse stays, with groups limited to a maximum of 12 riders.

This is a journey defined by isolation, dramatic landscapes and real adventure, taking riders far beyond the usual tourist routes into a region where mountains, desert, wildlife and traditional Himba culture come together. From the legendary Van Zyl’s Pass and vast Marienfluss to Epupa Falls and the remote river systems of northern Namibia, Kaokoland delivers the kind of riding and scenery that makes an African motorcycle expedition genuinely unforgettable.

Day 1 Arrival at Windhoek International Airport, welcome and transfer to Windhoek. Time for shopping, relaxing at the pool or exploring the city. Dinner at the famous Joe’s Beerhouse at your own expense. Overnight at Hotel Palmquell. Day 2 Comfortable transfer to Kamanjab, avoiding the long approach ride into Kaokoland. Stops along the way in Otjiwarongo and Outjo. Motorcycle handover and preparation in the afternoon. Overnight at Ann’s Lodge. Breakfast and dinner included. Day 3 The adventure begins. Ride through a dry riverbed into the impressive Khowarib Gorge. Conditions can become extremely dusty with sections of fine Fech-Fech, making good spacing between riders important. Camping overnight. Breakfast and dinner included. Day 4 Ride through remote Himba and Herero settlements towards Opuwo, one of northern Namibia’s most distinctive towns. From here, the route begins moving deeper into the isolation of Kaokoland. Camping overnight, with a lodge option available. Breakfast included. Dinner at the lodge at your own expense. Day 5 Continue north towards the Kunene River on the Angolan border and the spectacular Epupa Falls. Time is available to relax, explore the falls and interact with local communities. Camping overnight, with a lodge option available. Breakfast and dinner included. Day 6 Ride towards the legendary Van Zyl’s Pass, known for its rocky terrain, technical sections and spectacular views across the surrounding wilderness. Camping overnight. Breakfast and dinner included. Day 7 Continue through the vast Marienfluss, crossing sandy plains towards the Kunene River. This is true wilderness riding in one of Namibia’s most isolated regions. Swimming in the river is not possible due to crocodiles. Camping overnight in remote Kaokoland. Breakfast and dinner included. Day 8 A day of constantly changing terrain and scenery, with the landscape transforming every few kilometres. The challenging route follows dry riverbeds towards Purros, with the possibility of encountering Namibia’s famous desert-adapted elephants. Camping overnight. Breakfast and dinner included. Day 9 Continue through riverbeds with water sections and across vast, Mars-like plains towards the Hoanib River. Refuel in Sesfontein and visit the restored colonial fort before relaxing in the natural pool at Warmquelle. Camping overnight. Breakfast and dinner included. Day 10 Ride across wildlife-rich plains on the return journey towards Kamanjab. Overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast included. Dinner at a local restaurant at your own expense. Day 11 Motorcycles are loaded and the group transfers back to Windhoek. There is also the option to extend the journey with a two-day visit to Etosha National Park. Overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast included. Dinner at a restaurant at your own expense. Day 12 Transfer for onward travel or the start of an extended holiday in Namibia.
