Kathmandu, Nepal
The shorter of the two Annapurna rides, and the other side of the range from Mustang: forested, steep and green where Mustang is dry and open. From Kathmandu the road runs to Besisahar and then up the Marsyangdi gorge through Chame, Pisang and Braga to Manang, the last stretch on mountain dirt. Some Himalayan road sections are challenging, but it suits anyone with reasonable riding experience, and Rabi talks each rider through the route before the trip. There is a full day in Manang to acclimatise, see Gangapurna Lake and hike to Ice Lake or Braga Monastery if you want to, then it is back down to Chame for a campfire and barbecue, and on to the old Newari hill town of Bandipur and a homestay in Rumsi before Kathmandu. Fuel, three meals a day and permits are all included, and a single room is USD 1,000 extra for the whole trip. The price is per rider and depends on group size: USD 7,100 each for a group of four on the Himalayan 411, falling to USD 6,000 for eleven or more. Honda CRF250 and Hero Xpulse 200 are also available. Runs on request for private and group departures of up to 40 riders, with fixed 2027 dates to follow.
Eleven days from Kathmandu up the Marsyangdi valley to Manang at 3,500 metres, beneath Annapurna II, III and Gangapurna, on Royal Enfield Himalayan 411s. A rest day in Manang, a campfire night in Chame and a village homestay on the way home.
