Overview

A ten-day, 1,640 km ride across Lombok and Sumbawa combined with two nights on a private charter boat through the Komodo Islands. It takes in a private session on the Mandalika MotoGP circuit, a whale shark swim at Labuan Jambu and a trek to see Komodo dragons in the national park. Fully on-road, rated Intermediate +, minimum six riders, running May to August.

A ten-day, 1,640 km ride east across Lombok and Sumbawa, ending with two nights at sea in the Komodo Islands. The route crosses the Wallace Line and works through jungle, dry savannah and coastal roads, with two ferry crossings and daily legs that reach 269 and 279 km. Day two includes a private track session on the Mandalika MotoGP circuit. At Labuan Jambu there is an early boat trip to swim with whale sharks, and from Sape the group leaves the bikes to board a private charter phinisi, sailing to Komodo National Park to see the dragons on foot, then on to the Taka Makasar sandbar, Pink Beach, Manta Point and Gili Lawa. The bikes are picked up again on the mainland for the run back west along the north coast of Sumbawa, over to Lombok by ferry, up into the mountains at Sembalun and down to the coast at Senggigi. Riding is fully on-road, five to seven hours a day at around 60 km/h. Rated Intermediate +, minimum six riders.

Itinerary

Arrival and warm-up (30 km). Airport pickup and hotel transfer, then a tour overview and safety briefing after lunch. A short afternoon warm-up ride gets everyone adjusted to the bikes, followed by a barbecue and sunset at the beach. Stay: luxury resort and spa, Sekotong. Dinner included.

Off to the races (140 km). Sweeping ridgeline roads with panoramic views lead to a private track experience on the Mandalika MotoGP circuit. The afternoon continues through traditional villages and tobacco farms to a beach camp, with dinner and a bonfire. Stay: boutique beachfront resort in southeast Lombok. Breakfast and dinner included.

Crossing over (176 km). Riding north to Kayangan Port for the two-hour ferry crossing to Sumbawa, with a stop at a traditional fishing village to meet locals. The group reaches its oceanfront base in time for sunset. Stay: beachfront resort in Sekongkang. Breakfast and dinner included.

Sekongkang to Labuan Jambu (269 km). A long day starting with twisties, then out across the sprawling southern farmlands. The road climbs through highland forest where wildlife is often about, before the central island highway leads to the night's stop. Stay: cozy motor lodge in Labuan Jambu. Breakfast and dinner included.

Swimming with the giants (200 km). An early start on a traditional wooden boat before sunrise to swim with whale sharks, followed by a campur style lunch at a local house. The afternoon ride runs through rolling hills to the coast, where the group boards the boat. Stay: private charter boat, ensuite cabin. Breakfast and dinner included.

Sailing the Komodo Islands. Trekking in the national park to see the Komodo dragons, then sailing to the Taka Makasar sandbar, known as Lunar Beach. Lunch at Pink Beach and snorkelling at Manta Point, with a climb to the Gili Lawa viewpoint for sunset. Stay: private charter boat, ensuite cabin. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Sape to the Tambora Peninsula (278 km). Back on the bikes on the mainland after breakfast, with a stop to explore an abandoned lighthouse. The afternoon is spent cruising the northern coastline, reaching the oceanfront bungalows around sunset. Stay: oceanfront dive resort, North Tambora. Breakfast and dinner included.

Tambora to Sumbawa Besar (279 km). Scenic off-road riding through savannah-like landscape, a campur style lunch at a favourite local spot, then sweeping coastal curves with long ocean views. Stay: boutique seaside property in Sumbawa Besar. Breakfast and dinner included.

Sumbawa Besar to Sembalun (160 km). A morning run along the north ocean highway to Poto Tano and the ferry back to Lombok, with a stop for the mountain views at Sembalun. The day ends at the mountain cabins with dinner and a bonfire. Stay: mountain resort in Sembalun. Breakfast and dinner included.

Sembalun to Senggigi (108 km). A relaxed departure for the final half day's ride, dropping down through coastal villages to the finish line in the resort town of Senggigi. Stay: beachfront resort and spa in Senggigi. Breakfast and dinner included.
