Overview
This loop takes in most of what riders come to northern Thailand for. From Chiang Mai it climbs over Doi Inthanon to Khun Yuam, runs through Mae Hong Son to Pai, and crosses to Thaton by way of Chiang Dao and Doi Ang Khang on the Myanmar border. After the tea hills of Doi Mae Salong and a night in Mae Sai, a speedboat on the Mekong visits the Golden Triangle before the ride to Chiang Rai. Day 7 is the White Temple and Road 1148 to Nan, and the last two riding days pass Phayao lake and coffee villages on the way home. Thaiger Motorbike Tours is a small Thai-German family business: a local Thai guide leads, and the owners come along on every trip. An 11-day New Year departure runs from 26 December to 5 January.
Ten days and about 2,000 km from Chiang Mai around the Mae Hong Son Loop, up to Doi Mae Salong and the Golden Triangle, then over Road 1148 to Nan. Rental bike, fuel, breakfasts, lunches and airport transfers are included, for groups of two to eight riders.
