On our rules, the best months to ride in the Ha Giang Loop area are March, October and November.
The driest months are February, November and December; the wettest is August, with about 280 mm of rain over 26 rain days.

Rain days: days with at least 1 mm. Averages of daily values, 2015 to 2024, for Tam Son (Quan Ba) and Dong Van, corrected to riding elevation. Reanalysis smooths mountains and local showers, so read these as a regional picture rather than a forecast. PM2.5 in µg/m³ from the CAMS global model, 2022 to 2025; it tends to read lower than ground monitors during smoke episodes.

- Ha Giang to Heaven's Gate and Yen MinhThe first and best-known leg of the Ha Giang Loop as a day ride: the Bac Sum switchbacks, Quan Ba Heaven's Gate at over 1,100 metres, the twin mountains of Tam Son and the pine road to Yen Minh. Tarmac all the way, there and back.
