Four days on KTM 450 EXC machines out of Merzouga, working the desert along the Algerian frontier on the kind of tracks the Paris-Dakar rally used to run. The route takes in the Erg Chebbi dunes, the Gnawa musicians of Khamlia, the oasis at Tisrdmine, the remote settlement of Ouzina, the abandoned Portuguese ruins that locals call the lost city of Oubahlou and the baryte mines at Tijekht, before finishing through Rissani, the original Alaouite capital. Departures run from 9am and need a minimum of two riders, all 18 or over with a full motorcycle licence and genuine off-road experience. The bike, fuel, insurance, all meals, three nights of accommodation, a guide and a support vehicle with a mechanic are included.

GSLine's long circuit: 1,620 kilometres in six days, out of Marrakech and back, taking in the High Atlas passes, Taroudant on the far side of the range, the Dades gorges and the Sahara dunes at Chegaga before returning through Berber villages. Maximum altitude on the route is 3,200 metres. The company rates it intermediate and asks for experienced riders, with a minimum of four to run a departure. Two things set it apart from the shorter circuit: a camel ride in the Chegaga dunes and a 4x4 excursion in the desert are included rather than sold on the side, as is a Berber barbecue dinner in an Atlas village. An equipped 4x4 support van travels with the group carrying luggage and a mechanic, and half-board plus daily lunches are covered throughout.

The first day is a deliberately easy 50 to 80 kilometre warm-up through the Ziz Valley, a green ribbon of palms and villages, before the 180-kilometre run south through Erfoud and Rissani to Merzouga. Day three is a 100-kilometre off-road loop taking in Khamlia and its Gnawa musicians, a nomad family, the abandoned M'fis mines and a night in a luxury desert camp; day four returns across the Alnif plateau on a 200-kilometre stage that shifts from open flats to mountain track. The operator rates the tour intermediate and says it suits experienced off-roaders and adventurous newcomers alike. Six days out of Errachidia on dual-sport or enduro machines: a Ziz Valley warm-up, 180 kilometres south to Merzouga through Erfoud and Rissani, an 80 to 100 kilometre desert loop with a night in a luxury camp, then 160 kilometres of off-road past Taouz and Ramlia to an off-grid solar auberge at Ouzina, 170 kilometres of sand and rock back to Erfoud, and a 90 kilometre run home through the Ziz gorges and a farewell lunch. The bike and fuel, five nights across guesthouses, riads and a desert camp, breakfast and dinner, a bilingual guide, a support vehicle and Errachidia transfers are included. Six hundred and seventy kilometres over three days, run as a loop out of Marrakech and built as a blend of technical mountain roads and light off-road trail. GSLine rates it intermediate and asks for experienced riders holding a licence at least two years old. The published route works east from the city through the Demnate country and the natural bridge at Imnifri, pushes on to Boumalne Dades on the southern side of the High Atlas, and comes back over the Col de Tichka by way of Telouet, whose kasbah sits on the old caravan road the modern pass replaced. Groups run four to ten riders. The headline price covers the smaller bikes, the BMW G 310 GS and the Royal Enfield 450, with the GS 750 through to the R 1300 GS available at published supplements. A support vehicle and a mechanic travel with the group throughout.
